Understanding And Preventing Cyber Bullying
Cyber bullying is a online threat conducted by kids and/or teens using technology such as emails, chat rooms, instant messaging and cell phone SMS towards another kids and teens. Shockingly, these Cyber Bullies are as young as 7 years old kids. Unlike the traditional bullying, cyber bully has the advantage of being anonymous which make it harder for teachers and parents to catch the culprit. Since Cyber bullying is online, it can be performed 24/7 around the clock and can be much more widespread than the traditional bullying. This new kind of internet terror has been on the rise since a few years ago. Cyber bullying can be accomplished in several ways:
- Sending mean and threatening messages to other kids
- Sending pictures showing the content of the victim's locker
- Text War (when kids gang up on the victim and sending thousands of text-messages)
- Posing as the victim to make that person look bad by posting something humiliating and horrible.
- Using a screen name that is very similar to another kid's name (adding 'i' r 'e' to the screen name)
- Steal password and change the victim profile to include inappropriate things that often embarrassed the victim and other people.
- Create Web sites that may insult or intimidate other kids.
- Create Internet Pooling that insult another kids. (e.g. who are the school sluts?)
- Steals the password and locks the victim out of their own account.
Cyber bullies are often motivated by a lot of things such as hate, frustration, entertainment, bored, or maybe just because those Cyber bullies have too much time on their hands. Most of the victims of Cyber Bullying do not tell their parents about the incident because they're worried that the Cyber Bullies will do even more to them.
